About Sofia Zakia

  • Made with the finest materials and meticulously crafted, each piece is a unique sculptural creation using elements of magic, alongside mythological references as inspiration. Sofia Zakia pieces always have a story to tell, or a symbolic meaning, making them feel powerful to wear.

  • Founded in 2016, each piece is an unconventional, tender exploration with symbolism, borrowing from the worlds of art, history, and science in a harmonious juxtaposition of luxury and storytelling. Sofia works to create ceremonial jewelry that is alive with meaning, handcrafted to be passed down over lifetimes.

About the Designer

  • Meet the Designer

  • Sofia Ajram is the Canadian Arts and Fashion Award-winning Designer of Sofia Zakia jewelry. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Forbes, Grazia, and Bazaar Magazine, among others. She earned a BA in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, and Social Justice Studies and East Asian Studies from McGill University. They are a moderator for the Horror and HorrorLit forums on Reddit and have given lectures on contemporary horror films at Monstrum Montreal.

    Growing up, she cultivated a strong interest in speculative cinema and literature and applied those interests to the several facets of visual arts. In 2011 he began metalsmithing classes with a focus in wax carving. In 2016, they launched Sofia Zakia, a channel to combine her fascination with the art of goldsmithing and jewelry’s long and wonderful history of wearable objects with meaning. In 2021, we welcomed Sofia Zakia’s flagship store in the heart of Montreal.

  • Sofia strives to join the quiet intimacy and elegance of jewelry with the magic of storytelling: narratives that emerge from myths, cultures, and stories, both new and old; universal and personal.

    Each object holds beauty and strength over time while imbuing the atmosphere of unique and classic myths and histories. Each piece is designed with intention and wrought from refined gold and precious gemstones. All pieces feature our signature setting style and graceful silhouettes.

Thoughtful Design & Sustainability

  • ETHOS :: Our relationship to the design process begins with materials themselves, wrought from the enchanting poetry of our home planet.

    Our precious stones and metals are ethically sourced from Sri Lanka, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Tanzania, and the United States. We are proud to work with natural recycled diamonds and conflict-free metals to ensure our supply chains includes well-researched, transparent relationships which meet international labor standards and exclude destructive environmental practices.

    ORIGIN & LOW-IMPACT PRACTICES:: Every piece is handmade from start to finish by our Montreal studio to ensure quality heirloom pieces that can be passed down from generation to generation. We have an enduring commitment to environmental principles, from artisanal studio methods to non-toxic, low energy requirements for local production. We work with Canadian suppliers as well as artisanal and small-scale mining and cutting operations to find materials that support social and economic impacts at the source.

  • WHO WE ARE :: Sofia Zakia is proudly LGBTQI+ run and led. We believe in building a diverse team and operate an inclusive workspace in our flagship and our in-house production studio.

    SUSTAINABILITY :: Each piece is designed, cast, cleaned, and set from our small flagship in the heart of Montreal, Canada.

  • PAYING IT FORWARD ::
