About
“To the pure all things are pure.”(Puris omnia pura) — Arab Proverb
Inspired by the mistress of the captivating and timeless tale of One Thousand and One Nights, Scheherazade weaves together magic and storytelling in a colourful Arabian palace of jewel-tones.
The frame story chronicled the narrative of a king who, deceived by his first wife has her killed and he spent years thereafter seeing a new girl married every day and a wife dead every night.
To save the town from this horror, Scheherazade, the daughter of the king's advisor sacrificed herself to be the king's next wife.
The first night, just before dawn, she began to tell a story but stopped in the middle. The king spared her life to hear the end of the story the next night. The following evening she finished the tale, but started another, even more exciting, which she again stopped halfway through at dawn. Again, the king spared her life for one more day so that he may hear the end of the tale.
And so, Scheherazade kept herself alive day by day as the king eagerly awaited the finishing of the previous night's story. At the end of 1001 nights, a thousand stories had been woven, and she had no more tales to tell.
During these 1001 nights, the king had fallen in love with Scheherazade. He spared her life once more, and made her his queen.
