I run my thumb over every one of these pearls like an abacus. Counting the beads of memory with fondness. The lustre of the first pearl is for when you put on your coat over my old one and smuggled me up into the grand ballroom. The iridescence of the second brings to mind where you blushed and cast your gaze away when I looked at you. The softness of the third when you pressed your lips to the dimple under my jawline as I watched a mate launch fire towards the heavens for rescue.
I’ve always loved fireworks.
I'll count another pearl now, thinking of them, and thinking of you- lit in their brilliance.
