Shipping Policy
Duties & Taxes
Any brokerage, duties/taxes charged at customs will be the responsibility of the buyer.
We kindly ask that you do not contact us to inquire about tax/duties invoices from FedEx, as they must be paid by law when you purchase any goods, whether they are from a local retailer or are shipped to you across your border.
Please be advised your ship-to address' border customs will assess the import charges on a case-by-case basis. If deemed applicable, an invoice will be processed to you post-delivery (within 2-4 weeks).
We are not responsible for customs duties/taxes/fees charged at your border; the customer is solely responsible for making the payment and clearing their package with necessary documentation.
While we can aid in customs clearance wherever we can, we do so only as a courtesy as it is the buyer’s sole responsibility. If your order is shipped by FedEx, they will contact you several times if your package needs extra clearance information and it is the buyer’s responsibility to track the package and communicate with their FedEx broker. Please call FedEx to inquire about your broker’s email address if FedEx requires you to submit extra documentation for clearance.
Kindly clear your package as soon as possible as customs may only hold it for a few days before sending it back to us, which will deem it as a Refused Package.
By purchasing something, you agree to have read and understood Sofia Zakia's terms and policy herein.
WHERE DO YOU SHIP TO?
We are happy to provide international shipping. We are unable to ship to Ascension Island, India, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malta, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland, or Tristan da Cunha at this time.
We cannot not ship to APO/PO Boxes at this time.
REFUSED PACKAGES
It is the customer/receiver’s sole responsibility to pick up the package, pay taxes/duties, and fill out necessary customs forms to clear the shipment.
For shipments returned to us, customers must get in touch with us and cover the shipping charges, as well as the return shipping charge we incurred by having the package returned to sender.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS LOCATED IN THE UNITED STATES
All of our jewelry is USMCA-compliant and is 100% handmade in Canada and is therefore IEEPA tariff exempt.
If you are ordering to the US with your shipment arriving after Aug 19, 2026, please read regarding Section 338:
The US Government has proposed new tariffs as of August 19, 2026 under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. Please keep in mind that these are implemented by the US Government, not the Canadian Government, nor Sofia Zakia. We do not have control over—and are not responsible for—customs duties/taxes/fees charged at your border; the customer is solely responsible for making the payment and clearing their package with necessary documentation/information. This includes these potential new tariffs.
For additional information, we encourage you to contact your local government and follow local news closely to keep an eye for any updates. If these tariffs are overturned, please feel free to reach out to FedEx or your local government regarding reimbursement. Please note that Sofia Zakia is not responsible for any tariffs or duties incurred.
If you have an alternative address outside the US, please consider shipping there. Local pick-up in Montreal is also available.
Please note, we cannot cancel orders that are currently in production due to the handcrafted nature of our work. We can hold your order if you would like to make arrangements.
We truly appreciate your ongoing support and understanding.

Due to recent regulatory changes, all imports valued $800 USD+ now require the submission of a 5106 form to the US Customs and Border Protection Agency (through FedEx). Previously, this was required for imports valued at over $2,500 USD. Failure to submit this form as quickly as possible may result in shipment delays or your package being returned to us. Please email us at info@sofiazakia.com if you have any questions.
